Don't chase the carrot

Thoughts are like a carrot dangling in front of the donkey, only if he could get it he would be happy and satisfied. Our mind does this to us unconsciously almost constantly. It just appears in different ways than you may think. For example it may tell you that if you were to just eat that desert than you'd be happier than you are now. Then you eat it and within 5 minutes regret it.

The carrot analogy goes for all thoughts though, whether it be a better job, a better relationship, a new home, or a new place to live. We chase it as until we get it, but its not long before we get bored of that carrot and another one is dangling in front of us. You need to recognize your thoughts as this false temptation. If you were to just stop, sit down and stop chasing, you'd realize that happiness is in the awareness that the carrot is a silly chase. This awareness is called liberation from the mind.
