You must die to be free

While sitting in front of my window in deep presence an image came into my awareness. The image was of a man standing at the edge of a look off. It displayed a beautiful picturesque scene of nature. He was standing close to me when he pointed off in the distance and said, there Ken, there's enlightenment. But the man stayed in his position on the cliff edge. It occurred to me that in order to get to that enlightenment I'd have to go beyond the cliff. I would have to turn backwards, fall off the cliff and die. To totally let go of myself, the ego. In fact many of my teachers had never gone beyond that point. They knew what it was but did not die for it.
